An accurate ring size from the start avoids the need for resizing later — especially important for gemstone rings, as the stone setting makes alterations more difficult.You can determine your ring size using either of the two methods below.
A quick note on the two measurements: Circumference is the distance around your finger — this is what you measure using the string or paper strip method. Diameter is the distance straight across the inside of a ring — this is what you measure from an existing ring that fits well. You only need one of the two. Use whichever method is easier for you and match it to the corresponding column in the size chart below.
Method 1: The Hands-On Approach
Requirements
- A strip of paper or a piece of non-stretchable string.
- A marker or pen for marking.
- A measuring tape or ruler with markings millimeters(mm).
Steps to Measure Your Ring Size
- Wrap the paper or string around the base of your finger, where the ring will sit. Wrap the strip snugly — not too tight, not too loose.

Mark the point where the string or paper overlaps with a pen.
- Lay the string or paper flat on the ruler & measure the length from the starting point to your mark.
- Match this measurement to the Circumference(mm) column in the size chart below to find your ring size.
Method 2: Using an Existing Ring
If you already have a ring that fits the finger you're sizing for, this method is quicker and doesn't require a physical measurement.
Requirements
- A ring that already fits well.
- A ruler with markings in millimeters(mm).
Steps to Measure Your Ring Size
- Place the ring on a flat surface, right side up, with the band resting flat rather than tilted at an angle.
- Lay a ruler underneath the ring so that its inner edge lines up with the "0" mark, and half of the ring sits on either side of the ruler's markings — this makes it easier to read the measurement straight through the center.
- Measure the straight-line distance across the inner circle, from one inside edge to the other, passing directly through the center point. Avoid measuring across the outer edge of the band, as this will give a larger, inaccurate reading.
- Match this measurement to the Diameter(mm) column in the size chart below to find your ring size.
